Brush-stroke Icons for a Signage System

I was commissioned by a new civic arts center to create a system of spontaneous and artful icons that would be used throughout the physical architecture for signage as well as in print. The style chosen was a bold brush line, which was applied to symbols for theater, dance, pottery, painting, weaving and music. I experimented with a range of textures and balances of thick and thin. My favorites were the ballet slippers, which seemed to take on a life of their own.
